KOLLAM: The second accused in the abduction case of a six-year-old girl in Oyoor, has been granted bail. The Kollam Additional Sessions Court granted bail to the second accused, Anitha Kumari. However, the court rejected the bail plea of the first accused Padma Kumar. After the conversation of the child's father surfaced that there was a fourth person in the abducted group, the district court allowed further investigation on the application of the Kollam district rural crime branch.
The child had also said that there was a fourth person in the group. The investigation is to confirm this. The high court had earlier granted bail to the third accused, Anupama Padman. The girl demanded to grant her bail for her to continue her studies. The court granted this with conditions.
Padma Kumar and his family kidnapped the child near their house in Maruthamon Kattadi on November 27, 2023. Padma Kumar and his family who are in severe financial crisis, kidnapped the child to save themselves from this. They called the girl’s family that night and demanded ransom. As the investigation intensified and the news spread widely, they left the child in the ashram grounds and fled. Later, the police arrested the trio from Puliyara in Tamil Nadu. Padma Kumar is presently lodged in the Poojappura Central Jail.
