CHENNAI: The leading American car manufacturer Ford is preparing to return to India. The company closed its operations in India in 2021-22 and returned. The company closed its operations after the sales in India declined significantly. Ford is now planning to restart a plant for exports in Tamil Nadu. The company itself has stated that it is seriously thinking about coming back to India.
The plant is started to carry out manufacturing activities as part of exports. In this regard, the company officials also held a discussion with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. After discussions with Stalin, the company sent a letter to the Tamil Nadu state government. Ford clarified this information in their statement.
The first stoppage was to make Ford cars for domestic sales in India in 2021. Unable to keep up, it withdrew from the export sector in 2022. The plan is to restart the production plant to export to global markets. The company also said that the cars that Ford plans to manufacture at this plant and other details will be announced later.
There were rumors that Ford would return to India with electric cars, but there was no information about this later. Car models like Eco Sport, Free Style, Figo and Figo Aspire have sold well in India. Among these, Echo Sport had a huge demand in the Indian market.
