NEYYATTINKARA: 63 year old man, who forbade feeding biscuits to stray dogs, died after being beaten up. The deceased has been identified as Gilbert (63), a native of Kavinpuram in Parakottukonam, Marayamuttam, who was undergoing treatment for severe head injuries.

Incident

On August 16, around 7 pm, Gilbert went to a tea shop in Chemmannuvila near his house and saw Appu, a native of Chemmannuvila, giving biscuits to stray dogs. Gilbert banned Appu from giving biscuits to stray dogs, saying that if fed, their numbers would increase in the area. Enraged by this, Appu hit Gilbert in the chest. Gilbert fell on the road and was hit on the head. In the past too, Gilbert had banned Appu from feeding biscuits to dogs.

The locals informed Gilbert's son Jayalal about the incident over the phone. His son came and took Gilbert to a private clinic in Marayamuttam for treatment and returned home. However, the next day, while eating, Gilbert vomited and lost consciousness. On examination at Neyyattinkara General Hospital, the doctors informed that there was a deep injury on the head and a vein was amputated and that Gilbert should be taken to the medical college for surgery. After surgery and fourteen days of treatment, Gilbert was sent to Neyyattinkara Hospital. However, he died on Thursday. The Marayamuttam police have registered a case against Appu.
