NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the significant changes in Jammu and Kashmir over the past five years, crediting central government reforms for the positive developments. Addressing election rallies at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar and Katra, Modi asserted that political families, including the Congress, National Conference (NC), and the People's Democratic Party (PDP), are attempting to revert the region to its previous state of instability and hardship.
The Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir while highlighting the improved security and civic environment. "Earlier, election campaigns would wrap up by 6 p.m. Today, they continue late into the night," he said. Modi pointed out that while Kashmir had been shut down for 3,000 days over a span of 35 years, since 2019, there hasn't been a single eight-hour shutdown. "Do you want hartals again?" he asked the audience.
Modi underscored how schools and colleges are functioning smoothly, with youth now holding pens instead of stones. "The days of burning schools are over. Now, we are building AIIMS and IITs," he said, emphasizing that the youth are actively participating in democracy through elections and local employment opportunities are on the rise.
Referring to the abrogation of Article 370, the Prime Minister accused the Congress, NC, and PDP of trying to reinstate the policies that led to political stagnation in Jammu and Kashmir. "They want to deny women their rights, close cinema halls and burn schools. Pakistan’s agenda will not be allowed to succeed here," he stated.
He further criticized the political dynasties that have dominated the region since the 1980s, accusing them of stifling political competition. "The political sunset of these parties should be ensured," he said, calling for an end to dynastic rule.
Modi also condemned the Congress leadership, accusing Rahul Gandhi of disrespecting Hindu deities with his recent remarks. "Rahul Gandhi’s ‘goddess’ reference reflects a Naxalite mindset. It deserves punishment," he said.
In a concluding appeal, the Prime Minister promised that if the BJP returns to power, farmers would receive Rs 7,000 annually, household heads Rs 18,000, along with the provision of free electricity.
