THRISSUR: Former Minister and CPI leader, VS Sunil Kumar, has raised serious allegations regarding the disruption of the iconic Thrissur Pooram, claiming that the police’s mishandling of the event was no accident but a planned conspiracy. Speaking to the media, Sunil Kumar expressed concerns over a possible political motive behind the Pooram fiasco.
"The Chief Minister announced an inquiry into the disruption of the Pooram. However, the shocking fact is that, even after four months, there has been no official investigation. This is a blatant attempt to fool the public, and it’s unacceptable to handle such a grave issue in this manner," Sunil Kumar stated.
He further emphasized the need for clarity on who exactly was responsible for the disruption, beyond the police officers involved. He expressed his intent to file a Right to Information (RTI) request to determine whether any investigation had indeed been conducted. "Several officers have told me the case was investigated, yet there has been no public disclosure. If this issue is swept under the rug without a proper response, I will reveal everything I know," he warned.
In a pointed reference to BJP leader MR Ajith Kumar, who had initially demanded the transfer of the Thrissur City Police Commissioner, Sunil Kumar questioned the party's apparent change of stance. He claimed not to have seen MR Ajith Kumar at the Pooram ground during the two days he attended the event, while noting the presence of three IPS officers.
"The police did not instruct to halt the Pooram, nor did the Cochin Devaswom Board or the District Collector. Who made the decision to stop the event midway? Who called off the fireworks? On what grounds were these actions taken? These are critical questions that need to be answered," Sunil Kumar stressed.
Sunil Kumar also revealed that the Chief Minister had taken his concerns seriously. "Thrissur Pooram is more important than elections for the people of Kerala and the truth behind this disruption must come to light," he concluded.
