HYDERABAD: The central government has intervened in the controversy over animal fat and fish oil in the ghee used in Ladu, a delicacy in the Tirupati Venkateswara temple. Union Health Minister JP Nadda has asked Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to submit a detailed report on the matter.
Based on a report, Chandrababu Naidu had alleged that the prasad at the Tirupati temple, which is visited by 50,000 to 1 lakh devotees every day, contains non-vegetable substances. The ghee used to make laddus in Tirupati was sent to a government lab in Gujarat for testing. Referring to this report which was released in the month of July, Chandrababu Naidu made a big allegation against the previous YSR Congress-led government.
Chandrababu Naidu has alleged that when Jagan Mohan Reddy was the chief minister, the ghee used for laddus in Tirupati temple was found to contain fish oil and pig fat. His son Nara Lokesh Naidu and TDP supported Naidu's allegations. Andhra Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena Party President Pawan Kalyan accused Jagan Mohan Reddy of trying to destroy temples and Sanatana Dharma.
BJP has also made strong allegations against Jagan Mohan Reddy. Union Minister and National General Secretary Sanjay Bundy said that he committed an unforgivable sin. Meanwhile YV Subba Reddy, former chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, YSR Congress leader and now Rajya Sabha member, alleged that Chandrababu Naidu has destroyed the sanctity of the temple through such allegations.
