THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Temperatures are likely to rise in Kottayam, Alappuzha, Palakkad and Kozhikode districts today.
The temperature in Kottayam and Alappuzha had risen by four degrees Celsius yesterday. Thiruvananthapuram recorded a low of 1.5 degrees celsius and Kannur 1.6 degrees Celsius.
The rise in temperature is due to the direct exposure of the sun's rays to the earth following the autumn Equinox. The reason is the absence of rain clouds. Autumn Equinox or September equinox is when the sun reaches the top of the equator and the sun's rays fall directly on the earth. Today is Equinox. Today the length of the day and night are the same. With the formation of a new cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal on the 25th, there will be widespread rainfall for three days.
