THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain has been predicted in the state. Heavy rains are likely in the coming days as depression form over the Bay of Bengal. The rains are likely to continue till at least mid-October. If a low pressure or cyclone forms in the Bay of Bengal, the rains will be heavy in the south Indian states including Kerala.

According to the Meteorological Department, from June 1 to September 23, the state received 13 percent less rainfall than it should have. 1709 mm of rain was received instead of 1957 mm. Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki and Wayanad received less rainfall while the remaining 10 districts received good rainfall. Kannur received the highest rainfall, 15 percent more.

Moderate rain (5-15 mm/hour) at isolated places in Kasaragod district of Kerala with gusty winds of up to 40 km/h in next two hours, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur. The Central Meteorological Department said that light/moderate rain is also possible at isolated places.
