NEW YORK: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The meeting took place in New York yesterday, the last day of Modi's three-day US tour. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Modi for India's support in restoring Ukraine's peace and stability. This is the second meeting between Modi and Zelenskyy within a month.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that the meeting was held at the request of Ukraine. Pictures of the visit have also been released through the Prime Minister's official Twitter page.
"Met President Zelenskyy in New York. We are committed to implementing the outcomes of my visit to Ukraine last month to strengthen bilateral relations. Reiterated India's support for early resolution of the conflict in Ukraine and restoration of peace and stability," PM Modi said in a post in X.
Photos and an 18-second video clip of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sharing a warm hug and handshake have also emerged. The visuals also feature External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts through diplomacy during his recent speeches at the UN's Summit of the Future event, Quad summit, and a mega-conference hosted by diaspora communities.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Narendra Modi for his efforts to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
"This is already the third bilateral meeting this year with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi @narendramodi. We are actively developing our relations and working together to strengthen cooperation across various fields," Zelenskyy said on X.
