THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that rain with thunder and lightning and strong winds with a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour are possible in isolated places in the state today. A depression has formed over central-west Bay of Bengal and northwest Bay of Bengal near Andhra-Odisha coast. As a result of this, there is a possibility of widespread rain in Kerala for the next seven days.


Yellow alert has been issued in Kannur and Kasaragod today. A chance of isolated heavy rain is predicted. Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Centre, there is a possibility of high waves of 0.5 to 1.0 meters along Kerala coast and Lakshadweep coast till 11.30 tonight.


The IMD said that in the next three hours, there is a possibility of moderate rain at isolated places in Alappuzha, Kannur and Kasaragod, strong winds with a speed of up to 20 km per hour and light rain in all other districts.
