NEW DELHI: The son of a building owner was arrested for capturing the private visuals of a woman by installing hidden cameras in her bedroom and bathroom. The arrested person has been identified as Karan (30). The young woman was staying in a rented room in a building in Shakarpur, Delhi. She was living alone as she was preparing for the Civil Services examination.
The accused was staying on a different floor in the same building. The woman had handed over her room key to the accused when she went to her native place in Uttar Pradesh. After returning from her hometown, she started noticing unusual activities on her WhatsApp account. Upon inspecting devices connected to her WhatsApp account, she found that her WhatsApp account was logged in on another laptop. She subsequently logged out of WhatsApp from all devices and examined the room thoroughly to find if some devices were installed in the room to monitor her.
During the inspection, she found a hidden camera installed in the bulb holder in the bathroom. Following this, she lodged a complaint with the police. The police inspected the room and found another hidden camera installed in the bulb holder in the bedroom. The police soon found out that the cameras were installed by Karan. During the interrogation, Karan confessed to buying three hidden cameras from an electronics shop and discreetly setting them up in the woman's room when he got the chance.
Since visuals cannot be captured online through such cameras, Karan asked the woman for the keys again, citing electrical repair work in the room. Police have seized two laptops and a hidden camera from the accused. Police stated that Karan, who is differently-abled, suffers from voyeurism.
