LUCKNOW: A 36-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting his widowed mother. The shocking incident took place in Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh in January last year. The accused, Abid, was also slapped with a fine of Rs 51,000 by the Bulandshahar court.
The incident occurred when the 60-year-old woman and her son went to their nearby farm to feed animals. While preparing food for the animals, Abid attacked his mother and gagged her with a cloth before subjecting her to brutal abuse. He then threatened his mother, saying she must live with him like his wife and warned her that he would kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone.
However, the 60-year-old woman shared the incident with her neighbours, who informed her younger son. He subsequently filed a police complaint. The accused was arrested in January itself. After a year-long trial, the court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment. Besides life imprisonment for rape, the court sentenced the convict to an additional one-year imprisonment and a fine of ₹1,000 for threatening the victim. The court clarified that both jail terms will run concurrently.
The 60-year-old woman's husband died 10 years ago. Meanwhile, the accused claimed that he was innocent and argued that the case was fabricated due to a property dispute. The court noted that the defendant's claim of a property dispute was unsubstantiated due to lack of evidence and emphasized that a mother would not falsely accuse her own son of rape.
