ANKOLA: The lorry of Arjun, a Malayali driver, who went missing in the landslide at Shirur, has been found. The body has been taken out from the cabin of the lorry. Manaf, the lorry owner, confirmed that the cabin is that of his lorry. The remains of the lorry were found on the 71st day after Arjun went missing. The metal part of the vehicle was brought to the shore using the dredger. As expected, the body was fully decomposed. The remains of the body will be shifted to the boat of SDRF and brought to the shore.
Jithin, Arjun’s brother-in-law said that though they were sure that he will not return, an answer has been obtained to a big question. Manaf said that he is not happy in finding the lorry, but has peace. Some emotional scenes were witnessed in Shirur. The place MLA and the district administration are in the spot.
‘Arjun had faith in me. He knew that I would be there whatever happens. I have kept my promise to the family. He should be taken home. Should follow the word given to his father. All procedures should be completed quickly and the body should be taken home. I don’t want the vehicle and the temple,’ Manaf said emotionally.
Jithin was in Shirur from the time the search for Arjun started. We were sure that he will not return, but the important thing was to find some of his remains.
Arjun, a native of Kannadikkal in Kozhikode, went missing in the landslide at Shirur in Karnataka on July 16. Even though the search was often uncertain because the weather was not favorable, the family was hopeful that Arjun would be found in a search by the dredger. Though it is sad, that hope has yielded results now.
Ten including Arjun had lost their lives in the accident. Seven bodies were found from the river. Arjun went on July 8 with the lorry belonging to Manaf, a native of Mukkam, to bring timber from Karnataka. He last called his family on July 16. His family came to know that Arjun was missing when the Bharat Benz Company informed the lorry owner that the presence of GPS was present at the disaster site.
