THRISSUR: The police have stated that they will not file a case against Minister of State Suresh Gopi concerning allegations of assault against media workers. This decision comes after Congress leader Anil Akkara lodged a complaint regarding the incident.
The altercation occurred at Ram Nilayam in Thrissur when Gopi reportedly rejected questions from media about the controversial Hema Committee Report. Following the incident, Anil Akkara filed a complaint, prompting the police to take statements from the media workers involved and review CCTV footage from the location.
Despite this, the police concluded that there is no legal basis for taking action in the matter. In response, Anil Akkara alleged that the decision not to proceed with the case is indicative of a broader "Pinarayi-BJP deal," given that the media workers involved had provided statements corroborating the assault.
The incident has sparked significant public outcry regarding Suresh Gopi's behaviour, with the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) also condemning his actions.
