MUMBAI: Writer and filmmaker, Madhura Pandit passed away at the age of 86 at her residence in Mumbai due to age-related ailments. She was the wife of the legendary Hindustani classical vocalist, the late Pandit Jasraj. Her cremation took place yesterday evening at Oshiwara crematorium in Mumbai.

Madhura Pandit made significant contributions to the world of cinema and theatre, producing several plays and writing screenplays. Remarkably, she holds the distinction of being the oldest person to make her directorial debut at the age of 73, directing films such as ‘Sangeet Marthand Pandit Jasraj’ and ‘Aai Tuza Ashirwad’.

In addition to her work in film and theatre, she was also an author. She penned books such as ‘Shantaram: The Man Who Changed Indian Cinema’ and ‘Shantarama’, chronicling the life of her father, renowned filmmaker V. Shantaram.

She is survived by her children, music director Sharangdev Pandit and Durga Jasraj.
