The disruption of the festivities in the last Thrissur Pooram disappointed and enraged Pooram enthusiasts across the globe. The vibrant ceremonies, which were supposed to take place at night, were completely marred due to the arrogance of the police. Police brutally dispersed the large gathering of men who had assembled at Thekkinkadu Maidan to witness the breathtaking Pooram festivities, without any provocation. The authorities even blocked entry points to the Pooram city from a distance. The entire incident took place under the leadership of the Thrissur Police Commissioner, who is a non-Keralite. Later, it was alleged that ADGP MR Ajith Kumar, who is responsible for maintaining law and order in the state, was the one who instigated this official. What's strange is that it was MR Ajith Kumar himself who submitted a report to the government regarding the disruption of Thrissur Pooram. It is alleged that the Pooram festivities were intentionally sabotaged to ensure BJP candidate Suresh Gopi's victory in Thrissur. Moreover, it's claimed that ADGP Ajith Kumar was in Thrissur before the Pooram, orchestrating behind-the-scenes operations to achieve this goal.

Several leaders of the CPI, the second strongest party in the Left Front, had also raised strong allegations from the beginning. The government had not taken any further action based on ADGP's investigation report. In the meantime, news surfaced that ADGP Ajith Kumar had a secret meeting with two prominent RSS leaders a year before the last Pooram festival. The government has now announced a probe by the DGP into the matter. It is hinted that Ajith Kumar may be removed from his current post if it is found that he attended the meeting in a way misusing his official position. Regardless of the investigation's outcome, an impartial probe must be conducted into the Thrissur Pooram disruption, which brought shame to the state and government. The fact that so much time has been wasted on this is culpable negligence.

It is indicated that in Wednesday's cabinet meeting, the CPI strongly demanded a further investigation into the investigation report of the ADGP in the Pooram disruption incident. The government is also of the opinion that a crime branch investigation or judicial investigation can be conducted if necessary. The opposition and the two Devaswams, the organizers of the Pooram, have been raising this demand for a long time.

Since the allegation of police conspiracy behind the Pooram disruption persists, it's not at all appropriate for the police to conduct further investigation into this matter. Further investigation should be aimed at revealing the truth and removing people's doubts. In that case, a judicial investigation is the appropriate action. There should be no lapses whatsoever in arranging police protection for the successful completion of all religious festivals across the state, let alone the Thrissur Pooram. Interference and infiltration for political gains are against our heritage and culture. Festival grounds should not be places for police to exercise excessive power. Efficient police personnel who have good experience and can effectively manage crowds should be deployed there. Notably, even ministers of the state couldn't intervene in the issues during the last Thrissur Pooram. The police, who were incapable of handling things properly, were in total control there. The further investigation into the Pooram disruption should include recommendations to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future. For this, a judicial investigation is the most suitable option.
