In any war, it is the ordinary people, especially women and children, who suffer the most. In Israeli attacks and counter-attacks by fundamentalist armed groups, it was the civilians on both sides that have been killed the most. The war in Gaza is only a few days away from reaching one year. So far, more than 40,000 people have died there. The war continues in such a manner that no one can say when it will end. Similarly, there are only a few months left for the three years since the start of the War in Ukraine. Tens of thousands of people were killed there too. It also includes Indians, including Malayalees, who were taken away as mercenaries. Here, too, no one can say when the war will end.

One of the distinguished characteristics of the new age is that none of the wars that began are over. A war has begun in Lebanon in the meantime. More than 700 people have been killed and more than 2,000 injured in Israeli air strikes aimed at destroying Lebanon's armed group Hezbollah. People are fleeing southern Lebanon en masse. Israel is at war in Gaza and Lebanon. The war in Ukraine is being fought by Russia. None of the UN Security Council's attempts to end the war have been successful because the United States is providing overwhelming support to Israel. War is being waged by Russia, which has veto power. Therefore, the UN Security Council is standing helpless in the face of these wars.

Israel accuses Iran of being behind Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis. Therefore, the possibility of the war spreading to Iran can not be ruled out. Iran suspects that the death of its former president, Ibrahim Roussi, in a helicopter crash may have been in an attack similar to the pager blasts and that Mossad's hands were behind it. Similarly, the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh when he arrived as Iran's guest is considered to be sufficient reason to prepare for a war against Israel by Iran. If Iran joins the war after the air strike in Lebanon, the Middle East could be in a state of ferment. These are places where lakhs of people from Kerala have gone in search of work. Therefore, prolonging these wars is enough to paralyze us mentally and financially.

Israel's airstrikes have been launched after the explosion of pagers and walkie-talkies created panic in Lebanon. Armed organizations operating in these areas receive more than enough funding from the Gulf region.

UN Secretary-General Guterres himself has publicly said that differences in the UN Security Council are the reason why the wars have not ended. There is a situation where the relevance of the UN committees itself is being questioned. At this stage, India can make crucial interventions because it has good relations with all the countries engaged in war and as a country that stands on the side of peace. It is also India's need to maintain peace in the Middle East. In that sense, the world is expecting interventions from India.
