BENGALURU: The Karnataka government has announced an ex-gratia to the family of Arjun, the lorry driver from Kozhikode, who died in the landslide in Shirur. The Karnataka government has announced a compensation of five lakh to the family.
Earlier, a DNA test had confirmed that the body inside the lorry taken from the Gangavali river in Shirur was that of Arjun. The body was handed over to relatives. The body will be brought home by 6 am tomorrow. The Karnataka Police will accompany an ambulance to Arjun's house. The ambulance will be stopped at the accident site for five minutes.
A CI-rank officer of the Karnataka Police has been given the responsibility of the security of the ambulance carrying Arjun. Karwar MLA Satish Krishna Sail will accompany the ambulance. Karwar SP M Narayana will also accompany the body if permission is obtained from the chief minister's office.
All arrangements, including an ambulance and a mobile freezer, are ready for the journey with the body to Kerala. A collective mourning procession of lorry owners will be organized at the district border. The pyre will be prepared near Arjun's house. Arjun, a lorry driver, went missing on July 16 after a landslide occurred in Karnataka's Shirur. The landslide occurred at 8:45 am. It was after 72 days that Arjun's lorry was found in the Gangavali river. The body was found decomposed in the cabin of the lorry.
