Director Omar Lulu’s latest film ‘Bad Boyz’ received mixed reviews but controversy erupted after a call recording surfaced which had the producer threatening one reviewer, who made negative remarks about the movie.
And now, ending the long silence, director Omar Lulu responded on the issue and came down hard against Mollywood’s reviewers.
Omar Lulu:
“Many are unsettled and have shown knee-jerk reactions to popular reviewer Aswanth Kok not reviewing my film. To clear the air, I will tell the story. Since my first movie, I am friends with Aswanth. I even made him do a small role in my movie ‘Chunks’. So it has put him in a tough spot to review my films. Whatever side he picks up would end in bad taste. It is to avoid such a quandary that Aswanth deliberately avoided my movies.
And then there is Unni Vlogs. I can accept his opinion that he found my movie terrible. It is fair. But what irked me was his remark. Unni said he felt leaving the theatre by the interval as the movie was unbearable. How can such a person be called a movie reviewer?
Take for example the film Drishyam. The heart of the movie lies in the second half and the climax. I am not saying my movie is comparable to Drishyam. But it was such an inane statement from a so-called movie reviewer. He doesn’t even have the patience to watch a movie in full and is preaching filmmaking class. Unni said he was forced to watch the movie since his car was in the midst of others and it was impossible for him to drive through the rush during the interval. This is his crass attitude.
Another is Shazzam. He eternally wears a contempt on his face. Shazzam carefully omitted to remark about influencers in this movie because all of them are friends. He earns a living by throwing mud at iPhone users and lionizing Samsung phones. I challenge these lowlifes to ingeniously create something rather than find fault with others.
If you want to take a glimpse at Shazzam’s acting skills, just search his old TikTok videos. He should do one proper acting video before deriding others through his YouTube page. If he is about to give a bad review for a movie, then let him show the ethics of turning off his monetization button. Will he do that? Never. If he is not interested in a movie, then why should he switch on the monetization button for that video?
These guys mean business and they will stoop any low and insult others to get their mission accomplished.
