DEHRADUN: A young man died of respiratory failure while climbing a peak in Uttarakhand. Amal Mohan (34) from Vellathuval, Kambili Kandam Poovathinkal, Idukki. While climbing the Garuda peak in Uttarakhand, he felt suffocated.

Garuda Peak is situated at an altitude of 6268 meters above sea level. His friend, Vishnu G Nair of Ambadi, Kollam Sooranad South, who was with him, informed the authorities on Friday evening that Amal's health condition was bad. Vishnu also demanded urgent airlifting. After this, Amal's health deteriorated and he died. Amal's body was brought to Joshimath by helicopter from Kedarnath. The body will be embalmed and brought to Kerala after the post-mortem procedure is completed at Joshimath General Hospital.

NORCA CEO Ajith Kolassery said that Chief Secretary Sarada Muralidharan has intervened to complete the process as soon as possible and bring the body home. He said that NORKA's NRK Development Office in New Delhi is coordinating the activities for this.
