THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI has intensified its pressure on the issue of replacing ADGP M R Ajith Kumar. Yesterday, party state secretary Binoy Viswam and national executive committee member Prakash Babu raised the issue publicly at various places to send a clear political message to the CPM.
Ajith Kumar's position has not suffered any shake-up despite the political controversy over PV Anvar MLA, who first levelled allegations against the ADGP, leaving the Left Front.
CPI, which had raised the issue with RJD in the last LDF meeting, had since published articles and an editorial in the party's mouthpiece criticising the ADGP sharply. However, CPM state secretary MV Govindan rejected the demand for his removal from law and order duties during a press conference in Delhi. This is what has led to CPI increasing the pressure.
VS Sunil Kumar, who was the Left candidate in Thrissur, had also come out in support of the political criticism that it was the police's Pooram disruption at the behest of the ADGP, just days before the Lok Sabha elections, that paved the way for the BJP's victory in Thrissur. As the assembly is scheduled to meet on the 4th of next month, CPI's move is to harden its argument that the ADGP should be replaced. However, a strong political stand has not been taken on the issue.
