atm-robbery

THRISSUR: No special team will be appointed for the time being to probe the ATM robbery at three places in Thrissur. An inquiry will be conducted under the leadership of SHOs of three stations. The robbery in Mapranam will be investigated by the Irinjalakuda police, the Thrissur Shornur road robbery will be investigated by the East police and the Viyyur police will investigate the robbery in Kolazhy.

City police commissioner R Elango said a special team will be formed if required after taking the accused into custody and interrogating them further. The accused who committed the robbery were practically trained. The accused may have been trained by purchasing the most advanced and user-friendly gas cutter. According to the police, the accused used a method where they took out the cash in 10 minutes.

According to the police, a message reached the SBI control room at the time of breaking down the ATM. Since the ATM machines have a heat sensor, the alarm will sound if the heat of the gas cutter is sensed. If the sensor is connected to the banks, the theft information will be revealed in real-time. There are indications that this is how the control room got the information. In Mapranam and Kolazhi, an alarm was heard after 20 minutes. The alarm was heard in Thrissur only about an hour later. The assessment is that this is a flaw in this system.

Not all ATMs can be broken into

The cash trays of some ATMs will be in two layers, inside and outside. Some companies' ATM machines have a layer of iron-wired concrete in addition to the metal layer. Such counters cannot be cut using gas cutters. The robbery was carried out with a well-planned understanding of all this. Therefore, the police will check whether anyone else is involved in this apart from those arrested. The money is being filled by private agencies.
