KOTTAYAM: Karukachal police have registered a case against Nilambur MLA PV Anwar based on a complaint filed by a resident of Kottayam, accusing him of phone tapping. The case, registered under Section 192 of the Indian Penal Code, alleges that Anwar violated the privacy of others by illegally tapping phone calls.
According to the complaint, phone calls of high-ranking police officials in the state were hacked into the telecommunication system and the sensitive information was leaked to the media, posing a threat to public security. The case also falls under the Indian Telecommunication Act, with the FIR noting that Anwar's actions were unlawful.
The investigation, initially under the jurisdiction of the Kottayam police, is expected to be handed over to a special team for further probing. The complaint further states that the leaked phone conversations, including those of former Malappuram SP Sujith Das and other officials, were disseminated to instigate public fear and hatred.
Anwar had previously released phone conversations involving Sujit Das, leading to Das's suspension. Although no case was filed against Anwar at that time, the current case was lodged after Anwar’s departure from the LDF.
