THRISSUR: In the case of a gold heist on the Thrissur-Palakkad National Highway, investigators have linked the main suspect to a vehicle owned by Shahul Hameed, a leader of the DYFI and Secretary of the Nankaramala Unit. The police have launched an investigation into Hameed following the discovery.
Authorities executed a search warrant at Hameed’s residence in Tiruvalla and confiscated his vehicle. This comes after the arrest of five individuals, including the primary suspect, 29-year-old Roshan, who is also a YouTuber. The other arrested suspects include Shijo Varghese (23) from Pathanamthitta and Thrissur residents Siddique (26), Nishanth (24) and Nikhilnath (36). The robbery occurred on September 25 when gold jewelry, valued at approximately two crores was being transported from Coimbatore to Thrissur.
According to reports, the assailants, armed with a knife and an axe, attacked gold merchant Arun Sunny and his associate Roji Thomas while they were in their vehicle. The attackers forced the victims out of the car before making off with both the gold and the vehicle. The victims were subsequently abandoned at different locations—Sunny at Puthur and Thomas at Paliyekkara.
