Siddique will appear before the investigation team soon, the actor's lawyer said. A decision in this regard will be taken after getting a copy of the Supreme Court order staying his arrest for two weeks, the lawyer said. It is learned that Siddique will appear before the SIT in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Supreme Court granted conditional bail to Siddique. The apex court said that the trial court can decide on what are the conditions. The Supreme Court will hear the case again after two weeks.
Siddique's arrest was stayed as it applied to the conditions put forward by the trial court. The court has now issued an interim order considering the delay in filing the complaint. The court also asked what the state had been doing for the last eight years. The court reprimanded those who tried to become parties in the case. They have nothing to do with the case, the court said.
Though the state government and the actress strongly opposed Siddique's demand, the court stayed his arrest by issuing a notice on the petition. The court directed Siddique's lawyer to cooperate with the investigation. The victim's lawyer and the counsel for the state government pointed out in the court that Siddique is a superstar in Malayalam and age difference with the complainant. However, Mukul Rohatgi argued that the well-known actor of Malayalam cinema will be available at any point of time and will not run away anywhere. Rohatgi's argument was opposed by the counsel appearing for the government.
A bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma considered Siddique's case as the 62nd case. Additional Solicitor General and senior advocate Aishwarya Bhati appeared for the state government. Though the move was to consider former Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar, the stand that a woman lawyer could be appointed was taken later. Senior advocate Vrinda Grover will appear for the victim. Both the survivor and the government filed injunctions. Additionally, Paichira Nawaz and Ajeesh Kalathil have filed injunctions related to the case.
