PARASSALA/NAGERCOIL: A loco pilot miraculously rescued an old man who was trapped in front of a train in Parassala. Sarojan (62), a native of Neduvanvila was the one who was saved by the timely action of the loco pilot.

The incident took place at 6.30 pm near Parassala Elangam Devi Temple. The loco pilot noticed an old man walking towards the train when the Kanyakumari-Punalur Express stopped at Parassala railway station and was changing the track.

Despite honking the horn several times, he did not move off the track. When the loco pilot saw him walking towards the train, he used the emergency brake. Though the train stopped, Sarojan hit the grill and fell under the engine. He was pulled out by the passengers of the train and the railway police who rushed to the spot. Sarojan was taken to Parassala Hospital where he was given first aid and later shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. He has a spinal cord injury.
It is not clear why Sarojan went to the railway track. His relatives say that he was crossing the railway track. Parassala railway police have launched an investigation.
