THRISSUR: The project to modernize railway stations in Kerala with advanced facilities is progressing. Thrissur has also been included in the list of Amrit stations to be developed on airport model standards. Although the project received approval earlier, it's being revised to incorporate some changes suggested by MP and Union Minister Suresh Gopi.

The Railways is also planning to speed up the transformation of the main railway station in Thrissur as it is the constituency of the Union Minister. A group including railway officials, the District Collector and people's representatives held a discussion under the leadership of Suresh Gopi. Suresh Gopi put forward some new suggestions in this meeting. A decision has not been taken on the design of the building. It is indicated that the renovation of the railway station will start soon as per the project.

Thrissur railway station is set to witness development that preserves its cultural essence and grandeur. The project, valued at Rs 390.53 crores, aims to bring airport-like amenities to the station. The railway station will have separate zones for arrival and departure, similar to airports. Passengers will have dedicated entrances and exits for arrival and departure.

Currently, Thrissur Railway Station has four platforms, which will be increased to five. Facilities are being developed considering the needs of the next 100 years. The railway station building will be constructed across three levels.
