MUMBAI: The funeral of renowned industrialist Ratan Tata will take place today evening. The mortal remains of Ratan Tata were taken in a procession from his residence to the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA). The body will be kept for public viewing until 4 pm.
The mortal remains will be taken to the Parsi cemetery in Worli by 4 pm. The body will be kept in a prayer hall that can accommodate around 200 people. Prayers will be held for about 45 minutes, followed by the funeral. The funeral will be conducted with full state honours.
Mukesh Ambani, Anant Ambani, Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, Gautam Adani, Anand Mahindra, Baba Ramdev, and other prominent figures will pay their final tribute to Ratan Tata.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, State Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar and Mukesh Ambani reached the hospital immediately after learning of Ratan Tata's demise.
Many, including cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, visited Ratan Tata's residence to pay their respects. According to reports, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend Ratan Tata's funeral and pay homage on behalf of the Indian government. The Maharashtra government has announced a state mourning in respect of Ratan Tata's demise.
Ratan Tata passed away last night at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. He was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday due to age-related complications.
