THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister K Rajan said the government is ready to conduct a search for the people who went missing in the Wayanad landslide. 122 people missing in the landslide are yet to be found. A DNA test was not possible on the 55 body parts found. The minister told the assembly that the government is ready to continue the search and the date can be decided after talks.
‘There is disappointment towards Centre’s approach to Wayanad disaster. There is no move yet on central assistance. A memorandum was given in August, estimating a loss of Rs 1,202 crore, but nothing happened. Will approach the Center again for Wayanad’s relief. Kerala's demand and protest will be conveyed,’ the minister said.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had earlier informed that the government is providing all assistance to the victims and dependents of those dead in the Wayanad landslide disaster. 131 families of dependents of those who died in the calamity were given six lakhs together with SDRF (four lakhs) and CMDRF (two lakhs). A total of Rs 5,24,00,000 was provided from SDRF and Rs 2,62,00,000 from CMDRF. An amount of Rs 10,000 each was given to the families for the last rites of the 173 dead. 17,16,000 was paid to 26 people who required hospitalization for more than a week due to injuries. Out of this Rs 4,16,000 was sanctioned from SDRF and Rs 13 lakh from CMDRF.
