MUMBAI: Industrialist Ratan Tata's demise has orphaned numerous stray dogs he cared for through his Mumbai shelter. A poignant moment came when his loyal canine companion, Goa, bid farewell to its beloved owner.

There's a story behind why Ratan Tata named his beloved dog 'Goa'. Once, while Ratan Tata was in Goa, a stray dog began following him. He decided to adopt the dog and bring it to Mumbai. Since the dog came from Goa, he named it 'Goa'. Goa now lives with other stray dogs at Bombay House, the Tata Group's headquarters. Stray dogs are allowed to enter Bombay House, just like they have access to the Taj Hotel.

Ratan Tata's passion for animal welfare is exemplified by the advanced animal hospital he established in the Mahalaxmi area, Mumbai. This animal hospital has more than 200 beds, providing advanced treatment to its patients. This animal hospital was established by spending crores.

"Pets are part of our family, and every life is precious. When I looked around, I realized that basic facilities were lacking. I was amazed that in a country with such a large population of pets, we didn't have a facility to save lives and improve the quality of life for our pets, " Ratan Tata said about the establishment of the animal hospital
