MALAPPURAM: An elderly couple was brutally beaten up and their son hacked when they came to take back the money they had lent. The incident took place at Vengara in Malappuram district. Asain (70) and his wife Pathumma (62) were brutally beaten up. Their son Mohammed Basheer was hacked. Abdul Kalam, a native of Vengara, his son Sattar and his family were the ones who beat up the elderly couple and hacked their son.

Visuals of the crime that took place on Friday afternoon have come out. Vengara police have registered a case and started an investigation. Basheer had lent money to Sattar last year. Basheer had asked Sattar to pay him back several times, but he was not ready to give it. Sattar had also threatened the family.

Mohammad Basheer went to Sattar's house with his parents and his brother's wife as he did not get the money. The money was borrowed for business purposes. When the money was not returned, they protested in front of the house, but to no avail. Kalam and his family arrived here after Basheer raised a protest with a banner, which resulted in a scuffle.

Basheer, who lodged a complaint with the Vengara police, said that Sattar owes around Rs 23 lakh. Meanwhile, Abdul Kalam and his son have lodged a complaint with the police alleging that Basheer and his family beat them up.
