KOLKATA: Doctors' Association has come out in support of the junior doctors' strike over the brutal rape and murder of a woman doctor at the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. Doctors' associations in private hospitals have announced a 48-hour strike from Monday.

The strike will be organized in such a way that the patients coming to the emergency department for treatment will not be affected. The strike is in support of junior doctors who have announced a hunger strike till their deaths. Private doctors want the demands of junior doctors to be considered.

31-year-old PG doctor of RG Kar Hospital was brutally raped to death on August 9. The accused, Sanjay Roy, has been arrested. The junior doctors went on strike demanding a proper probe into the incident and enhancement of the security of the doctors. Though the state government resolved the strike through negotiations, it was restarted later.

The junior doctors started their strike again after the government, which had promised to consider the issues, backed out of the matter. Nearly 200 government doctors have symbolically resigned in support of the junior doctors. Meanwhile, the government has clarified that the mass resignation of doctors from government hospitals is not in accordance with the service rules.
