THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Stale food and rotten fish were found and destroyed during an inspection conducted by the health department in Kallambalam, Thiruvananthapuram. The action was taken during an inspection conducted jointly by the Health Department of Navaikkulam Primary Health Centre and Food & Safety Varkala Circle in the Kallambalam Navaikkulam area. Hotels, bakeries, poultry farms and the Kallambalam market were inspected as part of Healthy Kerala.
The mobile lab of Food & Safety Varkala Circle seized 15 kg of stale and rotten Tuna fish in a raid conducted at the Kallambalam market. Other fish kept for sale were also examined to make sure that there was no problem. Stale food kept in freezer was seized during the raid conducted at the hotels. Remedial suggestions were also given.
PHC health inspector said further inspections will be conducted under the leadership of the health department and food and safety Varkala circle in the coming week as well. Junior health inspectors Rafi Y, Vijeesh V, Lija V, food safety staff and others participated in the inspection.
