PALAKKAD: Palakkad MP VK Sreekandan said that there is no disagreement within Congress regarding the announcement of the party's candidate in the Palakkad by-election. He also said that he has not spoken to P. Sarin, the Congress Digital Media Cell Convenor, about the matter so far.
Speaking at the press conference, Sreekandan said that the Congress is a big party and that there is a criterion for selecting candidates in elections. He was responding to reports which claimed that P Sarin was dissatisfied with the candidate announcement.
"I don't think that Sarin would leave Congress. I don't think that a person, who is actively in the party, will leave the party in the name of candidacy. No one has expressed dissatisfaction regarding the candidate selection. Congress is a major party, and naturally, many will aspire for candidacy," Sreekandan said.
"Palakkad is a constituency where the Congress has a high chance of winning. Once the party makes a decision, it applies to everyone in Congress. Every party has its own criteria for elections. There have been instances where people have contested and won from different districts and states. Both the Congress and the CPM have the tradition of bringing in candidates from other districts to Palakkad and making them win. The party's decision is final. Many within the party aspire to be candidates. I haven't spoken to Sarin about this yet. Congress doesn't operate based on a single leader's opinions. The party will work unitedly for Rahul Mamkootathil's victory in Palakkad district," Sreekandan said.
"Those who disagree with this might have some agendas. They are trying to help the BJP. Let me first know about Sarin's disagreement. The Congress is not just Shafi Parambil. Everyone is working together as one. If there are rebels, we will counter them. All issues will be resolved. There is space for everyone within the Congress," he added.
