KOCHI: The Kerala High Court stayed the Kasaragod Sessions Court verdict discharging BJP state president K Surendran in a case related to Manjeswaram election bribery case. The action was on the revision petition filed by the state government demanding to quash the order of the Kasaragod Sessions Court.

The revision petition alleged that the court relied on the documents produced by the accused rather than the prosecution documents. There was a method of settling before the trial. It was stated in the petition that if there is any inconsistency in the statements, the witness can explain it in the trial court and no opportunity was given to do so.

BSP's K Sundara had filed the nominations in the 2021 assembly elections. The case of the Badiadka police is that Surendran's followers threatened Sundara for withdrawal of his nominations.

Surendran and others bribed Sundara with Rs 2.5 lakh and a mobile phone worth Rs 8,300. Kasaragod District Sessions Court acquitted all the accused including K Surendran in the first week of this month. This was considering the release petition filed by K Surendran. ‘The case is fabricated. The court accepted the defense's contention that the complaint, investigation and final report are not legal.
