THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There will be heavy rains in various districts of Kerala tonight as well. There is a possibility of moderate rain at isolated places over Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasaragod districts of Kerala during the next three hours and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph. Light rain is also likely at isolated places in other districts, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Meantime, the sea in Alappuzha's Thottappally has receded about 100 metres. The sea, which had receded around 4 pm, is still not back to normal. The incident took place at a time when the locals were protesting against the sea attack in the Thrikkunnapuzha and Ambalappuzha areas of the district. It has been warned that there will be a Kallakadal (swell surge) phenomenon in the state.
Red Alert
The National Centre for Oceanographic Research has warned that there is a possibility of a Kallakadal (swell surge) phenomenon along the Kerala coast till 11.30 pm tonight. In coastal areas, especially in low-lying areas, there is a possibility of water logging and sea attack.

An alert has been sounded along the coasts from Neerodi to Arockiapuram in Kanyakumari district. Fishermen and coastal residents should be on high alert as the Kallakadal phenomenon is likely to prevail till 11.30 pm tonight.
