KANJIRAPALLY: In a shocking incident, a man hanged himself after bludgeoning his parents to death. The deceased are Kanjirapally Parathodu native Retd SI Somanathan Nair (84), his wife Sarasamma (55) and son Shyamnath (31). The bodies were approximately three days old. The incident came to light during an inspection conducted by the police at Somanathan Nair's house following a complaint from relatives, who had not seen them for several days.

The gate and house were found locked. Police entered by breaking the door. The bodies of Somanathan Nair and Sarasamma were found in the dining hall with their skulls crushed. A blood-stained knife was recovered nearby. Sarasamma was the second wife of Somanathan Nair. His first wife had passed away 29 years ago. He has four daughters from his first marriage.

Shyamnath, a Civil Supplies employee, worked as a clerk at the Kanjirapally Supply Office. Colleagues noted that he wasn't very close to anyone in the office and occasionally expressed mental health concerns. He had been on leave since Monday. Forensic and fingerprint experts conducted investigations at the scene. The probe is led by Kanjirapally DySP M Anil Kumar. Somanathan Nair's other children are Latha, Yamuna, Swapna and Seema.
