KANNUR: Police on Saturday went back from their decision to interrogate CPM leader PP Divya, despite a case being registered against her for abetting in suicide. It is reported that Divya who was at her house on Friday has moved into another location, a secret one known only by close family members. This will further delay the police's attempt to question her. The CPM state secretariat will hold a meeting in Thiruvananthapuram to consider taking punitive action against Divya.
ADM Naveen Babu’s family are staunch CPM supporters, thus forcing CPM to walk on a tightrope as any delay in action against Divya would be an insult to the CPM supporting family.
Just after the suicide of ADM Naveen Babu, the comrades in Kannur tried a trick from their book to defend PP Divya by implicitly calling the ADM corrupt, However, the plan had a shorter lifespan as it failed to survive the massive outrage from the public. Things started going south for Divya after state secretary M V Govindan expressed his disappointment over the despicable comments made by Divya at the farewell ceremony. Govindan, known for fighting tooth and nail to defend comrades, turned an anomaly in Divya's case.
On Thursday night, an urgent meeting of the district secretariat was held at the suggestion of CM Pinarayi Vijayan, and the decision soon reached Divya’s house in Kannur. Later, a Facebook post announced Divya’s resignation from the post of panchayat president.
Divya earlier told her close friends that she would not resign and would be active in public events within two days. It was expected that the party would shield her in some way or another. Divya even questioned the party leaders on their stance to protect MLA James Mathew in connection with the suicide of a teacher in Taliparamba. She juxtaposed the two issues and wanted a favourable outcome from the party leadership, but alas, things went downhill after the party succumbed to public outrage.
