KALPATTA: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, who is seeking Lok Sabha seat from Wayanad, will submit her nomination papers on 23rd of this month. Parliamentary Election Committee convener AP Anil Kumar MLA said that after participating in the roadshow along with Wayanad former MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, he will come to Wayanad Collectorate and submit his papers.

After winning Rae Bareli in UP, Rahul Gandhi vacated the Wayanad constituency. It is in this situation that the constituency is moving towards the by-elections. In Wayanad, the UDF was on top in every election till 1991. From the 1996 assembly elections, that trend was slowly shaken. But in the Lok Sabha elections, the constituency was with the Congress. UDF won the first Lok Sabha elections in 2009 after the formation of the constituency and the two subsequent Lok Sabha elections.

CPI leader Sathyan Mokeri is the Left candidate from Wayanad. It is reported that the party is also considering the names of AP Abdullakutty and Sobha Surendran as BJP candidates. Last time party state president K Surendran was the BJP candidate from Wayanad. Voting will be held on November 13 in Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, Chelakkara and Palakkad assembly constituencies. Counting of votes will be held on November 23.
