THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have revealed further details regarding the tragic discovery of a newborn baby’s body found buried on a fodder farm in Vavarambalam, Pothencode. Authorities confirmed that the child’s death was not a result of foul play, but rather due to complications during childbirth.
The infant was born prematurely, at five and a half months, and died during delivery. According to police reports, the mother, a resident of Nepal, buried the underdeveloped baby in accordance with her cultural customs, believing she was acting out of necessity. The burial occurred without notifying the authorities, which police attribute to a lack of understanding regarding the situation.
The case came to light when the mother was admitted to SAT Hospital due to excessive bleeding following the delivery. Hospital staff alerted the Pothencode police, prompting an investigation. Police, along with officials from the Pothencode panchayat and forensic experts, subsequently located the buried body.
The woman stated that she gave birth around 8 PM the previous evening. Following the investigation, police indicated that no charges will be filed against the parents in connection with this incident.
