KOCHI: Two members of a North Indian gang involved in the mass theft of mobile phones during the music night of world-renowned DJ Alan Walker have been arrested. The accused, identified as Athipur Rahman and Wasim Ahmed, were from the Dariyaganj area of Old Delhi and brought to Kochi.
Kochi City Police Commissioner confirmed that two more members of the gang have been identified and will be arrested soon. Investigations revealed that two separate gangs from Mumbai and Delhi were responsible for the thefts that occurred during the event. A total of 39 mobile phones, including 21 iPhones, were stolen on October 6 during the concert in Kochi.
The Delhi-based gang had reportedly arrived in Kochi by train on the morning of October 6, checked into a lodge, and later attended the concert in the evening. Following the theft, they returned to the lodge and left the city the next day, once again by train. Upon reaching Delhi, the gang attempted to sell the stolen phones.
Two Assistant Commissioners and four Inspectors, along with around 100 police officers, were deployed for security during the event. Despite the heavy police presence, the large-scale theft occurred, raising concerns about security arrangements at such major events.
In a separate incident during the concert, Mulavukad police registered two cases of cannabis possession. Four youths, natives of Chanthirur, Alappuzha, were arrested but later released on bail.
