KOCHI: The method of theft carried out by Jignesh and Sona, natives of Malappuram, is very different. They would enter the waiting hall of the railway stations, grab the mobile phones that is plugged in for charging, and then walk out without anyone noticing. However, the railway police and the intelligence wing were able to catch them red handed at Ernakulam railway station.

According to the police, there are cases registered against them for stealing mobile phones from multiple railway stations from Thiruvananthapuram to Kozhikode in Kerala. They were arrested in a joint raid conducted by the RPF and the intelligence wing. There were complaints from various railway stations in Kerala that mobile phones were stolen.

Jignesh and Sona were caught in a search conducted by the police after complaints became widespread. Two mobile phones worth more than one lakh each were also recovered from them. Police have received information about other mobile phones stolen by them also. Their modus operandi was to enter the waiting halls of various railway stations at night and steal mobile phones from there. Both of them are close friends, the RPF said.
