THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The technical university has decided to file a theft complaint against Professor Ciza Thomas, who was appointed as VC by the governor after rejecting the recommendation of the government. During Ciza Thomas' tenure as VC, the Syndicate had formed a subcommittee to monitor her activities. The technical university is approaching the police pointing out that the original documents of this decision are missing. However, the governor will give strict instructions that there should be no retaliatory action against the former VC and not to move towards a police case.
The syndicate decisions were given to the governor by Ciza Thomas with her dissent note. When the varsity later enquired at the Raj Bhavan, the documents could not be found. The move to file a theft case is based on the interpretation of the original documents as the property of the varsity. Ciza informed the Raj Bhavan that the documents had been handed over to the Governor. The Raj Bhavan said it was investigating the matter. The Board of Governance has decided to file a complaint alleging that Ciza Thomas has illegally acquired the documents. The university has an expired board of governance. The Raj Bhavan's assessment is that with Saji Gopinath being given the charge of the VC, the decision of the Syndicate sub-committee for monitoring has been scrapped and hence the earlier decision is no longer relevant.
The government took revenge on Ciza when she was made VC by the governor rejecting the government's recommendation that the principal secretary of higher education should be given charge of the VC. The administrative tribunal had ordered that Ciza Thomas should not be made a scapegoat in the tussle between the governor and the government. The high court had rejected the plea to disqualify Ciza. Though Ciza was later transferred, she was appointed in Thiruvananthapuram itself after the tribunal intervened. Although Ciza retired in March last year, she has not been given pension and benefits citing disciplinary action. The attempt to implicate her in a fake theft case comes after the Supreme Court rejected the government's plea against this.
