KANNUR: Hearing has started in the Thalassery Principal Sessions Court on the anticipatory bail plea of former Kannur district panchayat president P P Divya, who has been charged with abetment of suicide in the incident that led ADM Naveen Babu to commit suicide. Divya's anticipatory bail plea was filed through advocate K Viswan.

Divya told the court that she is one who has a strong stand against corruption and that she had received two complaints against the ADM. Gangadharan had also filed a complaint in the land issue. Should we maintain silence after getting a complaint? Divya also told the court that ADM Naveen Babu interfered in matters that were not within his purview. The complaint filed by Gangadharan against Naveen Babu was read in the court. It is the need of the society that officials should not become corrupt. Divya's argument was that the intervention was done as desired by the people.

Attended the farewell function of Naveen after the collector invited her informally. Had informed the collector that she would attend the function. Divya's lawyer told the court that it was the deputy collector who invited her to speak at the function. Divya's controversial speech during the farewell ceremony was also argued in the court. Divya's argument was that what she said was not abetment to suicide but was advising him to do better.

Meantime, P P Divya has been hiding for the past one week. Divya is the first accused in the crime of abetting suicide. Still, the party managed to protect Divya from arrest for a week. The police said the investigation is on and Divya is not at her house in Irinave. Even though reached there thrice, the police could not find her. Her husband Ajith also said that he does not know where she is.

There were reports that Divya was hiding in Palakkayam resort, a hill resort in Kannur. The police said that an investigation was conducted and no evidence was found.
