KOCHI: Actress and producer Sandra Thomas in her open letter to the association said the producers’ association is not women friendly and that she had faced a bad experience from the office bearers of it. In her letter to the secretary of the association, she said they sexually abused her after summoning her to solve the complaint in connection with films.
Letter says
The Kerala Film Producers Association, a powerful organization of the film industry, is standing as mute spectators when the Malayalam film industry is discussing about revelations and criminal cases after the Hema Committee report. Even as a producer in the film industry and as a woman, having to give such an explanation is helplessness. The producers’ association itself is asserting that this sector is not so women-friendly through my letter.
There has been a disgusting and bad experience from the side of the association office bearers. Not only that, this letter seeking clarification also reveals the existence of a power group in the area. The producers' association has determined that it is the responsibility of a producer to distribute the film taken by him.
Following the horrible incident that happened to me at the producers' association office, I was completely devastated and had no sleep for days. Still not fully recovered from the trauma. At least some of the executive committee members are aware that she had a panic attack and sought medical attention. The very next day, I called many officials of the association about my ordeal, but no action or solution was taken.
I am also left with three unanswered questions
1. Why didn't the association, who alleged that I demeaned them in an interview given to an online media after taking membership by paying Rs 1.5 lakh as fees, solve the problems I had with the association. Why action was not taken against those including the president and secretary who called me for a discussion and then discussed the colour of my bra?
2. Why did the secretary tell me to go to another organization, FEUOK, when I approached my organization, the producers' organization, to solve my problem?
3. What are the criteria for issuing a press release after the release of the Hema Committee report stealing the suggestions in the letter given by me to the association to resolve the issues in the film sector? The president and secretary who failed to create a women-friendly environment, unable to adapt to the changes of the new era, should resign and bring women to that position.
