THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Extremely heavy rains have been predicted in the state in coming hours. There is a change in the rain forecast in various districts. Orange alert has been announced in five districts. Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur will be on orange alert. Except for the northern districts like Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod, other districts are on yellow alert. Heavy rains are expected in these places.
During the next three hours, isolated heavy rain with thundershowers and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph will occur over Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam, moderate rain with thundershowers and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph over Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha, light rain at isolated places over Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur, informed Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

People living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides and flash floods should move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.
Residents living in river banks and downstream areas of dams should also anticipate the risk and move as per the instructions of the authorities.
People living in disaster prone areas must ensure that camps are opened in their area and move there during the day. For this, local body and revenue authorities can be contacted.
Due to the possibility of strong winds, people living in unsafe houses and those living in houses with weak roofs should be especially careful. Those who see danger should contact the authorities and evacuate to safe places as a safety precaution.
It is also important to be aware of the dangers of trees falling down and posts collapsing in the wind. Under no circumstances should one cross rivers, bathe in rivers or other bodies of water, fish or do any other purpose during heavy rains.
Viewing, taking selfies or congregating on the overpasses above water bodies is not allowed. Avoid non-essential travel completely during heavy rains. Recreational trips to waterfalls, water bodies and hilly areas should be avoided completely until the rain warning is lifted.
