PALAKKAD: Former CPM area committee member Abdul Shukur announced his resignation from the party, citing ongoing threats, humiliation and personal animosity from the district secretary. Shukur’s emotional response and his tearful exit underscore the frustrations he endured within the party, with allegations of deep-rooted factionalism in the CPM’s Palakkad district unit.

In his resignation statement, Shukur described himself as a sincere worker who tolerated repeated provocation and degradation within the party. He expressed particular frustration with the district secretary, who he claims has consistently targeted him with baseless blame.

One flashpoint was the recent accusation from the district leadership regarding election campaign preparations, specifically around the alleged failure to set up boards and graffiti supporting CPM candidate P Sarin. Shukur defended his stance, stating that these tasks fell under the purview of booth secretaries, yet he was publicly singled out and shamed at a meeting of over forty people.

“Four days before the meeting, the district secretary threatened me, and this behavior was repeated in front of others,” Shukur revealed. “How can one continue in such an environment?”

Shukur’s decision to part ways with the CPM was deliberate, adding that he has yet to consider alternative political alignments. His departure highlights ongoing concerns about factionalism and sectarianism within the Palakkad district party structure, which he claims undermines genuine party workers.
