KANNUR: TV Prasanth, employee of Pariyaram Medical College, has been suspended. The action was taken based on the investigation by the health department. Strict disciplinary action will be taken later, the order said.
The report says that the allegations levelled against Prasanth in connection with the death of former Kannur ADM Naveen Babu were investigated. According to the report, Prasanth illegally abstained from service, did not come to work after the ADM's death, and the leave itself is illegal.
Prasanth, who works under the Co-operative Department Society, is obliged to comply with the service rules. The government is planning to take over the Pariyaram Medical College. Prasanth will also be included in the list of those who will be made permanent. So the rule does not allow Prashanth to start a petrol pump.
Prasanth's action of engaging in private business ventures is seen as a serious violation of rules, code of conduct and a breach of discipline. The order also states that immediate action is being taken against Prasanth based on the investigation.
The investigation report of the health department had stated that TV Prasanth obtained permission for the petrol pump by hiding his job at Pariyaram Medical College. Prasanth is an electrician at the medical college. Prasanth is also on the list of those who will be made permanent even though it is a temporary job at present. The rule that business establishments should not be started while in service is applicable. The investigation team led by the additional chief secretary of the health department had found that this rule was violated. Following this, an order has now been issued suspending Prasanth.
The investigating team had rejected Prasanth's claim that he did not know that permission had to be sought. Health Minister Veena George had earlier made it clear that Prasanth will not continue in service. It was the minister who announced the probe. Rs 4.5 crore will be required to start a petrol pump. The police are investigating how Prasanth, an electrician, got so much money. It is widely alleged that he is a benami.
