THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain is likely in the state in the coming hours. Yellow alert has been announced in Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode. A chance of isolated heavy rain is forecast. Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

According to the Central Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad and Malappuram districts and strong winds of up to 40 kmph.

Strong winds with gustiness of 35 to 45 kmph at occasional gusts up to 55 kmph and bad weather are likely over Kerala - Lakshadweep coasts. The authorities have warned not to go fishing from these shores.

Meanwhile, the Central Meteorological Department has informed that there will be no disruption to fishing off the coast of Karnataka. Strong winds with gusts of 35 to 45 kmph and occasional gusts of up to 55 kmph are possible over the Maldives today.
