MUMBAI: Notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi is likely to be a candidate for the Maharashtra Assembly elections. The Uttar Bhartiya Vikas Sena party's nomination forum has asked for Bishnoi to be fielded as its candidate from the Bandra West constituency. Forms A & B, which are the official documents required to give the nomination, have been requested from the returning officer.
Uttar Bharatiya Vikas Sena leader Sunil Shukla seeks to file nomination documents on behalf of Lawrence Bishnoi. In his letter to the returning officer, Shukla said that Bishnoi's signature will be collected on the form and the affidavit would be finalised. "If Lawrence agrees, a list of 50 candidates who will contest the election will be released soon," the letter said.
It is reported that Bishnoi is likely to be a candidate in the elections after his name was in the news in connection with the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique. Bishnoi had also threatened to kill Bollywood star Salman Khan on several occasions. Bandra West is a politically significant constituency. Baba Siddique won as an MLA from here.
Assembly elections in Maharashtra will be held on November 20. The election will be held in a single phase. The counting of votes will take place on the 23rd. The Mahayuti Alliance comprising Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, BJP and Ajit Pawar's NCP is currently in power. The main rival of the Mahayuti Alliance is the Maha Vikas Aghadi, which includes the Congress, Shiv Sena (UPT) and Sharad Pawar's NCP.
